What is calisthenics ? Calisthenics is a form of strength training utilising compound bodyweight exercises. There is minimal use of machines or equipment although they have a place in bridging the gaps between easier and harder progressions of calisthenics skills. Calisthenics journey starts with the mastery of fundamental movements like push-ups, pull-ups, leg raises, squats etc. It only gets more fun from there. Unlocking some of the advanced skills like dragon flag, human flag, handstand push-ups, muscle-ups, back lever, front lever and planche is phenomenal feeling. Here at Strive Fitness, we believe having functional bodies is as important as having a beautiful, ripped beach body with the beautiful eight pack and the eye-catchy adonis line. We have devoted trainers who can teach you the fundamentals and help you build a strong foundation so you master your own bodyweight!  Book a no-hassle money back guaranteed session today!

Some of the most popular calisthenics skills we teach:

1- Muscle Ups

As one of the most advanced pulling skills, muscle ups are a quick and aesthetic way to get yourself on top of the bar.  It consists of three parts: pull+transition+push. Being proficient with two out of the three, will unlock the exercise and proficiency in all three parts will lead to mastery.

2- Human Flag

One of the best-looking calisthenics skills out there, hands down. It will be comforting to hear that it is actually not one of the hardest. Can be a good idea to get the human flag first, because it is hugely motivating to unlock one of the advanced skills. Tricky part is teaching the brain to multitask by pushing with the bottom arm and pulling with the top one.

P.S: The form is less than optimal, but excusable while frolicking in the streets of Istanbul.

3- Back Lever

As the skills get harder, the amount of practice required increases as well. Back lever is performed by hanging from a bar or rings. The body is aligned and horizontal. Shoulder strength and flexibility is the main pillar. Core strength is the make up and the decor. Posterior pelvic tilt is the goal.

4- Handstand Pushup

Handstand pushups are a beautiful combination of strength, skill and mobility. Overhead pushing strength is required for obvious reasons, so the body can be pushed back up. Skill comes into play as the movement requires using different muscle groups at varying intensities during the exercise. Last but not least, mobility will help with the alignment and will prevent the infamous banana back.

P.S: Banana back requires a decent of amount shoulder mobility, which I am lacking at the present.

5- Front Lever

One of the harder advanced skills, front lever. It is harder than its milder natured twin, back lever because  back lever utilises the passive tension generated by the stretch of the shoulder flexors. Whereas in the front lever, more force needs to be generated by active muscle contraction thus requiring more strength.

6- Planche

One of the tougher ones, the Planche. Almost looks like a trick out of a David Copperfield show. It takes years of dedicated practice, enormous amount of shoulder flexion strength, skill and very well developed back extensors.
